Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and basal cell carcinoma (BCC) account for >95% of skin cancers. All clinicians should have an approach to the diagnosis, management, and appropriate referral for patients with non-melanomatous skin cancer (NMSC). Risk stratification for these lesions is based on several tumor characteristics. Premalignant or low-risk lesions may be managed with non-surgical therapies, but surgery is preferred to reduce the risk of recurrence. Surgery undertaken depends on tumor characteristics, and lifelong skin surveillance is recommended.
