Rethinking International Academic Mobility Research: Networks, Embeddedness, Transnationalism, and an Analytical Framework
摘要
Based on the synthesis of the data and analyses presented in previous chapters, a three-layered analytical framework for international academic mobility research is offered: the “Multi-transnational Academic Mobility and Migration Framework” (MAMMF). The MAMMF creatively and comprehensively illustrates how migrated academics are embedded in interlocking and transnational micro-meso-macro fields and multifaceted temporal-spatial mobility spaces. In these fields and spaces, migrated academics collect capital and develop transnational academic mobility habitus and agency within embedded personal social networks. As a framework within a mobility–migration nexus, MAMMF contributes to the ontological and theoretical advancement of international academic mobility research and immigrant transnationalism studies from developmental, retrospective, holistic, and actor-centered perspectives. The MAMMF is locally significant to Japanese universities and contexts but also globally applicable and relevant to studies on mobility, internationalization, migration, and globalization.
