Corporate governance and management are paramount for the sustainable success of organizations. Ownership proficiency is a foundational requirement for effective and efficient corporate governance and management. This piece explores the significance of ownership proficiency, identifies ultimate owners’ competencies, and delves into the higher education (HE) programs for becoming such an owner. Understanding the nuances of critical terms, such as abilities, knowledge, skills, values etc., is essential for strengthening ownership proficiency. While certain elements are inherent and challenging to enhance, others are acquirable through learning and practice. The primary objective of this research is to develop ultimate owners in competencies. It employs didactic models that integrate relevant andragogical considerations with the affective, cognitive, and psychomotor domains, fostering triple loop learning. The research adopts an action research strategy, engaging a HE institution in Estonia. The preliminary results contribute significantly by addressing the “why,” “who,” and “how” of strengthening ownership proficiency, while also presenting a framework for creating a micro-credential program in this domain.
