The Role of Universities in Digital Transformation: Challenges and Prospects
摘要
Digital transformation of the economy has become an integral part of modern business, requiring adaptability and readiness to change. This chapter examines the role of universities as key players in this process, emphasizing the main areas of universities’ influence on digital transformation. The aim of the research is to study the theoretical foundations of digitalization of the economy, the place of higher education institutions in the implementation of digital transformation processes, as well as to analyze the practical experience of universities’ participation in the development of approaches and measures to accelerate and improve the efficiency of transformation processes. Theoretical aspects of the topic under consideration are disclosed and generalized thanks to the analysis of literary sources of domestic and foreign authors. The theoretical analysis considers the concepts of digital economy, digital culture, digital maturity, the need to train highly qualified personnel to solve the problems of the digital economy, an important function in this case is assigned to universities. The university is considered not only as a place for training and obtaining competencies, but also as an intellectual center working on the principle of networking. Not all universities have the necessary base for training specialists in the relevant fields. In this regard, steps are proposed to integrate digital technologies into educational processes and research activities to meet the need for highly qualified personnel for the digital economy. The practical side of the topic under study is presented through analyzing the work of a specific university (case study method), namely Brest State Technical University (BSTU). The chapter describes a set of activities implemented at BSTU or in the process of launching and aimed at training specialists capable of solving problems for the digital economy. The example of BSTU demonstrates the successful implementation of digital initiatives. The university not only implements modern educational programs, but also develops scientific research, allows students and teachers to participate in projects and solve actual problems. Such interaction between science and business contributes to the integration of innovations into the economy, increasing its competitiveness in the international arena.
