Anesthesiology requires multitasking skills and situational awareness in both routine and high-intensity scenarios. Advancements in technology have provided the impotence to spur improvement in anesthesiology. Although these improvements have led to decreased morbidity and mortality, they have also led to increased distractions in the operating room. This chapter examines risk mitigation techniques, the role of artificial intelligence, and upholding professionalism in the age of distractions and will address the complexities of maintaining focus in the operating room.
