Psychological Safety and the Relationship with Electronic Distraction
摘要
The growing presence of the I-patient (the computer or personal device) in the exam room and at the bedside causes distraction for clinicians, which in turn leads to patient safety events. Clinician distraction has other root causes, such as a frequent lack of psychological safety in the modern healthcare workplace. We must address these root causes in order to improve clinician wellbeing and patient care. The advent of AI as a new wave of technology provides an opportunity to undo the unintended consequences of the I-patient. Current and future technology introduction must focus on end-user development of new technologies in order to make them more user-friendly, reduce distraction, increase workforce resilience, and improve patient safety.
