Territorial Governance and Spatial Transformation in South Africa: An Introduction
摘要
This chapter summarises the influence of apartheid planning on the spatial characteristics of South African cities and towns and highlights that spatial transformation in the post-1994 era has been more challenging than initially anticipated. The five key dimensions underpinning the notion of territorial governance in policy discourse are described as reference framework applied in the various individual chapters. Different definitions and approaches to spatial transformation are reviewed. The final section describes the overall objectives and general approach and provides a summary and roadmap of the individual chapters in the book.
