Contrasting Impacts of Tourism Expansion
摘要
Tourism growth and its peculiar features are source of multiple phenomena having both negative and positive impacts on the territory and the economy. It can be a cause of excessive congestion and at same time instrument of rapid recovery after a shock, because of its resilient nature. This chapter provides analytical tools to understand and measure the phenomenon of overtourism together with a theoretical description of the broad concept of economic resilience and its application to the tourism sector. The aim is to provide a framework to understand the trade-offs between the ability to contribute to recovery and growth on one side and the congestion of the territory on the other side due to the tourism sector expansion.
