Historical Reflections
摘要
This final chapter is closely connected with the larger message in my essay “On Felix Klein’s Early Geometrical Works, 1869-1872” [Rowe 2023]. That paper has very little to say about the “Erlangen Program” per se, but it nevertheless tries to suggest why that famous text came to overshadow a great deal of Klein’s other early work. As I indicated already in the Preface, one has to look well beyond the content of the text itself to account for its lasting fame and nearly unique place in the history of mathematics.
