Third molar extraction is one of the most common dentoalveolar surgical operations in adult population. Kunkel et al. (2007) reported postoperative haemorrhage in 1 out of 100 cases requiring hospitalization due to severe third molar complications. A large retrospective analysis of complications associated with third molar surgeries reported prolonged haemorrhage in 0.16% to 5.8% of patients (Chiapasco et al. 1993; Muhonen et al. 1997; Moghadam and Caminiti 2002; Bui et al. 2003; Benazzou et al. 2009). Unexpected haemorrhage is more often recognized as an intraoperative complication (0.80%) rather than a postoperative complication (0.15%) (Chuang et al. 2007).
