This chapter addresses the neglected issue of upper limb prosthetics. It uses a case study of an evaluation of a novel prosthesis, the Koalaa ALX system, to illustrate how clinicians and commissioners of services in Uganda and other SSA countries, might swiftly and at low cost, gather evidence for ‘what works’. The evaluation involved a combination of qualitative methods with objective data on both physical behaviours of the participants and their patterns of prosthesis wear. We discuss the potential for similar approaches to be used in other contexts, and for evaluation of other devices.
