Scrolling Through Work: Unraveling the Tug of Social Media on Employee Focus
摘要
This study examines the impact of social media on employee focus and productivity across various sectors in Bahrain. Through qualitative research, based on semi-structured interviews, a thematic analysis was conducted to reveal both positive and negative effects of social media in the workplace. The results revealed social media enhancing communication and professional networking, while also contributing to distractions and reduced focus. The study offers practical recommendations for organizations, including developing clear social media policies, fostering a culture of productivity, supporting staff to employ self-regulation strategies, and leadership to play a more supporting role in shaping social media norms. The insights contribute to understanding the dual role of social media in modern workplaces, particularly in the Middle Eastern context, to highlight strategies and future research directions for optimizing its use while mitigating its potential drawbacks.
