Phase Commutation Strategy to Mitigate Overvoltage in Distribution Networks with High Photovoltaic Penetration
摘要
Photovoltaic sources are a reality in the power systems around the world. Despite many benefits, some challenges come with the presence of a large amount of them in the distribution network, mainly related to overvoltage. So, there are a need of mitigation strategies studies, trying to find a solution for the power quality issues. Literature shows that capacitor banks and transformers with on-load tap changer can be used to reduce the voltage magnitude. The functions of smart inverters (Volt-Watt and Volt-Var) can also be an interesting way to mitigate these issues. This paper presents an alternative method to maintain voltage levels in a desired range: a controller that changes the phase of connection of a single-phase distributed generation unit in a three-phase low voltage grid. OpenDSS and Python are used for the analysis. Results show that the proposal is a promising way to avoid power quality problems in distribution networks.
