Geothermal Heat Flux Mapping Using Satellite Remote Sensing, Case Studies in the Hot Springs of El Salvador: San Vicente, Ahuachapán, San Miguel and La Union

El Salvador is a country with many hydrothermally active areas and geothermal potential. El Salvador has two geothermal power generation plants in Berlin and Ahuachapán. However, there is only a cartographic record of some heat flow points made by remote sensing. Furthermore, there is no comparative study of the validation of remote sensing methods considering data records of temperature field measurements in these geographic points. This type of comparison is intended to facilitate the evaluation of the geothermal feasibility of a given point of interest. In this work, we present a comparative review of Landsat 8 TIRS images, specifically images of the Normalized Vegetation Index (NDVI), Land Surface Temperature (LST), and Radiant Heat Flux (RHF). These images are compared with direct and indirect measurements made in the field on the studied locations.
