Ultrasound for Trauma Evaluation
摘要
The sonographic assessment of a patient with blunt or penetrating trauma has many potential applications. While point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) can evaluate for solid organ injuries, fractures, globe injuries, musculoskeletal trauma, and foreign bodies at the bedside, the most common application of POCUS in trauma is the Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma (EFAST) examination. This rapid bedside assessment is designed to evaluate for the presence of hemoperitoneum, hemopericardium, hemothorax, and pneumothorax in patients who have suffered trauma. By using POCUS in these patients, clinicians can quickly assess for the presence of blood or other fluid in these regions, which may indicate internal bleeding or injury. The EFAST is particularly valuable in emergency situations when prompt diagnosis and treatment are critical for avoiding adverse patient outcomes.
