While there are many different fully funded methods, they share some common features. This chapter introduces these general concepts in the context of Defined BenefitDefined Benefit schemes. The basic criteria for an initial classification of methods are introduced. Then the general logic of funded methods is discussed. The definitions presented in this chapter will be used systematically in Chaps. 10 and 11 devoted to the detailed description of the main individual or collective funded methodCollective funded methods.
