The Practitioner’s Challenge: Readiness for Change
摘要
Deciding to implement science-based youth development practices is a significant step for any youth development program. However, successful implementation depends on the program being ready for a change. Readiness, or an organization’s willingness and capacity for change, involves thinking, measuring, and building readiness across multiple areas of a program. This includes careful consideration of the program and the perspectives of all the staff who contribute, from part- and full-time employees, to board members, to regular and seasonal volunteers. In this chapter, we discuss the concept of readiness, outline factors that contribute to it, provide reflective questions and strategies for building readiness for science-based youth development practices, and offer actionable steps for incorporating readiness thinking into your program. We close with practical next steps that youth development professionals can take when they integrate readiness thinking into their programs and practice.
