It provides some definitions of integrity, corruption and police ethics and discusses the blue code of silence. It introduces the statutory requirement and regulations around police misconduct and outlines a brief history of how the research upon which this book is based was collected. The role of police culture is introduced in terms of the adherence to the blue code and then the chapter concludes with an overview of the themes of the book and its contents.
