Photon-counting computed tomography (CT) represents a significant advancement in imaging technology, offering profound benefits for emergency radiology departments. This review explores the potentially transformative impact of photon-counting CT (PCCT) on emergency radiology practices, focusing on its improvements in radiation dose management, contrast agent utilization, and diagnostic efficiency. By employing photon-counting detectors, this innovative CT technology can precisely differentiate between individual photon energies, allowing for a significant reduction in radiation exposure without compromising image quality.
