What do we mean by the title: Just Technology. The first thought might be the use of ‘just’ implies exclusiveness in approach—of course, technology is the best and only solution. But that is not our intention, instead we think of the word just as a derivative of justice, as in technology that is just in its choice and implementation. Our main goal for this book is to get engineers to think more broadly about whether a technological approach is appropriate for the given situation being addressed. We believe that by not taking it for granted that technology is needed will result in a more just use of technology when appropriate.
