Transportation Energy Realities
摘要
This chapter summarizes the environmental impacts associated with transportation, especially automobiles and trucks. The historical correlation between energy use and progress is reviewed. The carbon footprint of an energy user is defined. We look at the energy-environmental tradeoffs necessary for fuel and electric energy in general and then review the underlying thermodynamic principles, energy quality, and distinction between energy carriers and sources. The effects of mobile source emissions on the climate and attempts at regulatory solutions are reviewed.
