This chapter summarises a wide-ranging view of the teacher burnout phenomenon and reviews new insights obtained from empirical research. The chapter tries to make connections among the multiple factors which contribute to burnout and the consequences for the teachers themselves, their students and other stakeholders in the education endeavour, including administrators and parents. These factors are considered in relation to the multiple contexts in which educational processes occur and also suggest possible coping strategies (including teacher agency, proactivity, autonomy, and resilience) which may help to avoid the negative consequences of the widespread burnout phenomenon.

摘要

This chapter summarises a wide-ranging view of the teacher burnout phenomenon and reviews new insights obtained from empirical research. The chapter tries to make connections among the multiple factors which contribute to burnout and the consequences for the teachers themselves, their students and other stakeholders in the education endeavour, including administrators and parents. These factors are considered in relation to the multiple contexts in which educational processes occur and also suggest possible coping strategies (including teacher agency, proactivity, autonomy, and resilience) which may help to avoid the negative consequences of the widespread burnout phenomenon.
