This paper presents AN-EXTRA-Push – a novel ankle exoskeleton, which harnesses the energy of a moving treadmill to provide ankle plantarflexion assistance. AN-EXTRA-Push mimics the function of an Achilles tendon. Assistance torque profile of the exoskeleton is determined by its mechanical design, not control strategy, and is inherently synchronous to the body’s own efforts. We conducted a preliminary study with a new prototype. In a single healthy subject study, we have shown that assistance with AN-EXTRA-Push results in decreased activity of soleus muscle necessary for push-off without substantial changes of kinematics.

摘要
