This chapter elaborates on the methodology and sources utilised by the study. These are—insights from national and local newspapers between 2004–2020, data collected from civil society organizations, relevant journal articles and reports, government data at the local and national level, and extensive parsing of peer-reviewed journals across multiple disciplines for relevant pieces on health, education, and economic activity in J&K. Significantly, it was also informed by around sixty in-depth stakeholders interviews conducted between 2020 and 2022, with serving and retired government officials, members of the armed forces, members of civil society, academics, journalists, and others. Finally, field visits to the region assisted in primary research and data collection to substantiate findings from secondary sources. They helped understand local realities ensuring all sides to the complex issues were adequately reflected in the outcome.
