A common understanding of the term power evokes initial responses that more closely approximate condign power and the use of force through physical and psychological violence. This chapter reviews how the United States exercised its military power against the Islamic State in Libya in 2016 and why this common perspective on power proves incomplete when approached through the more comprehensive theory presented in this work.
