Non-traumatic aortic emergencies (NTAE) represent a dynamic group of severe and potentially fatal conditions. These entities include aortic dissection, intramural hematoma, penetrating atherosclerotic ulcer, as well as rupture and impending rupture of Aortic Aneurysms. The radiologist plays a crucial role in the prompt diagnosis and assessment of NTAE, as the presenting signs and symptoms are often nonspecific. This chapter provides an overview of non-traumatic aortic emergencies, focusing particularly on multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) technique, typical and atypical findings, and common pitfalls associated with these conditions.
