Trump's 2024 victory was not a simple case of right-wing resurgence, but a result of a much broader and deeper public rage against a system they perceive as corrupt, indifferent and rigged against them. This chapter explores how Trump's appeal stems from his unfiltered, even pornographic self-exposure, which allows him to articulate the rage and frustrations felt by many voters alienated by established political systems. We explore the historical roots of representative democracy's inherent limitations, and that populism, exemplified by Trump, arises as a response to this systemic failure of representation. Whereas, traditionally, such exposure would destroy a candidate, Trump’s political appeal was based precisely upon his own, personal hyper-exposure. As a celebrity politician, Trump’s defeat will only come when his celebrity becomes too much, too boring. Whilst ever he articulates the public rage—and entertains the public with its expression—that won’t happen.

摘要
