In this chapter we consider the principles of the reconstruction of images from projection signals and the associated method of back-project reconstruction. We apply these principles to X-ray Computed Tomography (CT), Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET). In doing so, we explore why PET can achieve a higher resolution than SPECT, but require a different device design than needed for X-ray CT and SPECT.
