Each state has a Board of Pharmacy which is made up of pharmacists who help govern the profession to the extent allowed by each state’s law. Every state has different laws, rules, and requirements for what the Board of Pharmacy looks like, what it can do, and who can serve on it. The Alabama Board of Pharmacy has the responsibility of writing and enforcing rules and regulations it is authorized to create by state law, determining who can participate and practice the profession of pharmacy, holding hearings for violations of state or federal law or rules, and assigning sanctions when it determines a violation has occurred. At the individual pharmacy level, a supervising pharmacist ensures that the pharmacy complies with all legal requirements in order to provide good pharmaceutical care and to ensure the safety and welfare of the public.
