In 2023 various companies began to refer to their AI tools as “Generative AI”, particularly tools like GPT-4, Dall-E 2, and Copilot (Feuerriegel et al. 2024). Many of these tools already existed, and all of the AI algorithms and architectures that inspired the tools had existed for at least years previously. Thus, as “Large Language Models (LLMs)” became a marketing term to make big Transformer models sound more distinct, Generative AI was a marketing term to make these AI systems sound more distinct from prior generative AI systems.

摘要

In 2023 various companies began to refer to their AI tools as “Generative AI”, particularly tools like GPT-4, Dall-E 2, and Copilot (Feuerriegel et al. 2024). Many of these tools already existed, and all of the AI algorithms and architectures that inspired the tools had existed for at least years previously. Thus, as “Large Language Models (LLMs)” became a marketing term to make big Transformer models sound more distinct, Generative AI was a marketing term to make these AI systems sound more distinct from prior generative AI systems.
