Beyond Rights and Obligations: Design Factors in Digital Volunteering
摘要
This study examines how psychological contracting may be used to design a better digital volunteering platform. Given that psychological contracting differs from commercial contracting, involving informal agreements based on mutual expectations between the parties, this study identifies and examines the relative significance of four key drivers: social, opportunity, value, and organisational. The study undertakes a survey of volunteers and organisations and identifies gaps in expectations and perceptions of importance and performance around the four drivers. To address these gaps, design features are proposed for a digital volunteer platform that can enhance performance of organisations around these drivers and address the challenge of high attrition rates among volunteers. These insights are then used to identify specific web-based tools for Benevolence 2.0, a digital platform currently under development.
