Awareness of the Right to Be Forgotten Among Users of Professional Social Media Platforms: A Sample from the Arab Region
摘要
The aim of this study is to investigate the extent to which Arab users of professional social media such as LinkedIn and/or ResearchGate are aware of their privacy rights while using these platforms, mainly the RTBF. To do this a survey questionnaire was administered to 80 users of LinkedIn and/or ResearchGate and 18 follow up interviews were conducted with the participants. The findings indicate that there is a lack of awareness concerning the concept of RTBF. Hence, this study contributes to a better understanding of this right among Arab users and offers insights and suggestions to promote its exercise. The present paper starts by stating the rational, followed by a brief discussion of the RTBF. It will then present the methodology, the key findings and discussion of the main themes arising from the research. The paper ends with recommendations for the stakeholders and policy makers in the data protection field.
