This study explores AI ethics employing two primary frames of reference: Islamic ethics and UNESCO guidelines, through the lens of human dignity, justice, and fairness in AI technological construction and utilization. The research focuses on how UNESCO specifications stress respect for human rights and dignity, asserting that intelligent systems should benefit humanity and cause no losses or discrimination. This aligns with the Islamic concept of the sacredness of human dignity and the supremacy of justice, as derived from the Quran and the principles of Maqasid al-Shariah (Objectives of Islamic Law). Islamic perspectives on AI underscore the importance of the boundary between the rightful use of AI and that which harms people’s rights or their worth. Other Islamic ethics include justice and fairness in decision-making processes in AI systems, as well as the principles of non-discrimination and accountability. Methodologically, the work includes literature on the topic, the textual interpretation of Islamic law, and comparing the Islamic ethics system to UNESCO norms. From this comparison, it is also possible to see similar values like justice, transparency, and privacy protection. Based on the argument, the researcher determines that Islamic ethics and UNESCO’s approach apply to AI development as they preserving human dignity, preventing harm, and promote the benefit of humankind. Implementing these ethical principles will address fairness, inclusiveness, and the compatibility of the AI systems with international and Islamic standards.
