Photocatalysis for Removing Long Chain Alkane Residues from Water Using Chitosan Coated TiO2 Nanocatalyst

The study focuses into the usage of chitosan-coated TiO2 nanoparticles as a new and effective GC–MS approach for removing long chain alkane residues from water. Nanoparticles were generated and studied utilizing a variety of techniques, including XRD, SEM, EDS, TEM, and FTIR. The samples were maintained in clear glass bottles and analyzed for long chain alkane residue amounts using a validated GC–MS method. The findings revealed that 28.29% of the alkanes were hydrolyzed in tap water, and after 48 h, 100% of the alkanes were catalyzed by the nanocatalyst. The study shows that nanocatalysts are an efficient decontaminating agent for eliminating long chain alkane residues from water, offering advantages over traditional decontamination processes such as cheap cost, high efficiency, and eco-friendliness. The outcomes could be used in wastewater treatment and environmental remediation, with the intention of encouraging further research and contributing to sustainable and ecologically friendly techniques for improving water quality.
