One of the most important critical elements in determining the feasibility of wind energy generation for any particular site is the accurate assessment of wind energy density. In this research, the Rayleigh distribution approach has been widely adopted in estimating wind energy density for different selected areas of Iraq. The main reason for using this approach is the accuracy of the results and the short time to reach the results. A detailed analytical study of wind speed, energy, and its prevailing direction for four Iraqi regions (Nasiriyah, Diyala, Karbala, and Kirkuk) has been presented. The most important variables such as wind energy density, average wind speed, most frequent wind speed, etc. have been taken into account. The results show that the best place or governorate among the areas whose wind results were analyzed is Nasiriyah Governorate, as it is considered the preferred location for harvesting wind energy. The following study can be adopted as an effective tool in identifying the most promising locations for installing wind turbines, utilizing wind energy, and supporting the government energy system.

摘要
