Cross-cultural experiences have revealed critical components for effective and sustainable social and emotional learning (SEL) initiatives. These key elements offer a framework for educators, policymakers, and stakeholders to tailor SEL programs to their communities’ unique cultural contexts and needs. Cultural relevance and adaptation, whole-school approaches, educator training and professional development, collaboration and partenerships, evaluation and evidence-based practices, connection to the future of work are discussed with the aim of suggesting future directions for SEL research, policy, and practice.

Cross-cultural experiences have revealed critical components for effective and sustainable social and emotional learning (SEL) initiatives.
