Social and emotional learning (SEL) has emerged as a crucial component of holistic education worldwide, equipping students with essential skills for personal development, academic achievement, and career success. This chapter reports on a comprehensive cross-cultural investigation that analyzes how SEL is conceptualized, prioritized, and implemented across the Global South, Asia, and the Global North regions. Drawing insights from educators’ perspectives in diverse cultural contexts, the study uncovered both universal SEL competencies like empathy and communication, as well as region- and nation-specific nuances influenced by unique social, cultural, and political factors. Common patterns in SEL program design and implementation are also highlighted. The analysis reveals core elements critical to SEL implementation, such as cultural relevance, systemic approaches, professional development, partnerships, evaluation, and workforce readiness integration. This cross-cultural exploration provides a nuanced understanding of SEL’s global landscape, informing culturally responsive practices to foster students’ holistic development.
