Climate change and global warming are two important factors that are causing major disasters all over the globe. Especially, sea-level rise due to rapid glacier melting has caused severe coastal erosion in recent times. According to the recent scientific reports regarding coastal erosion the global land lost (LL) is 27,860 km2 and land gained (LG) is 13,810 km2 during 1984–2015. As per NASA global sea-level report, the sea-level rise is increasing very rapidly, where sea levels have risen on an average of 1.6 millimetres (0.063 inches) per year between 1900 and 2018. The study is an attempt to examine the problem of shoreline change in Kakinada with a view to understanding the causes of erosion and accretion. This study analyzes the Kakinada coastline changes using satellite imagery from 1989, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021.
