Introduction
摘要
Human beings have an innate desire and ambition to face challenges, whether at sea, on land, in the cold, in the heat, at altitude, or even in space. All of this has made man fight to overcome obstacles, whether losing or winning, but always go forward to build a path to fulfill a dream or a project. In sports, environmental conditions may affect athletes’ performance and health, overloading metabolic and endocrine systems and weakening the body’s physiological responses to overcome adverse or extreme weather settings. The successful team physician is the one that is prepared as well as able to adapt to spontaneous environmental challenges in events with limited resources. The team physician must have protocols and supplies ready to tackle environmental challenges based upon the athletes’ unique needs. This includes understanding appropriate sideline and on-field access to the athlete as well as when and how to escalate to a higher level of care.
