This chapter first describes the fundamentals behind Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in simple terms for a Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) professional. It then explores the integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques introduced with NDE processes. A lucid exposition of Generative AI begins with tracing of the lineage and technological evolution of this field, providing context for its current capabilities and prospects. The various use cases of NDE are then explored through the lens of Generative AI applicability and utility. The core focus lies in delineating how Generative AI augments NDE practices across various stages, from developing inspection procedures and plans to creating comprehensive reports and refining training content. The chapter also opens possibilities of using Generative AI in assuring compliance and facilitating inspections, thereby enhancing the efficacy and efficiency of the entire NDE value stream. Although, the possibilities are limited only by imagination, the authors have tried a comprehensive synthesis of the transformative potential of Generative AI in NDE, in addition to offering practical insights for its integration and optimization.
