When encountering investigations in a scientific field we are not familiar with, we tend to ask the following typical questions: The purpose of the present book is to provide answers to these questions for the scientific domain constituted by statistical descriptions of discrete particle dynamics in turbulent flows. In that sense, this book is a multi-fold invitation whose nature is outlined in this chapter which serves as an introduction and set the stage.
