This chapter takes an ecological approach to the promotion of individual and collective health. This is a proactive approach supported by community coalitions, advocacy efforts, and capacity building to create policy changes. Communities’ participation in the promotion of health involves capacity building of the community-based organizations by training, modeling, and linking them to preventive initiatives and policy change opportunities. The focus of community participation in promoting healthy environments and communities is the expansion of health access with the creation of health-care access with direct participation of community groups in state-wide efforts advocating for universal access and buen vivir. Another important aspect of community participation in health-related issues is the promotion of health equity and social justice with a focus on a shift from social service to social change. The chapter will describe the role of communities in conceptualizing, designing, and implementing health promotion initiatives in social contexts that demand a more active role of psychology in public health. We will consider the significant development of community-based effective interventions to improve collective health and well-being in our countries.

摘要
