The fifth and last chapter of this study marks the culmination of an extensive exploration, presenting the contours of an ethics of vulnerability. This framework, as proposed herein, necessitates certain conditions for its validation, including interdisciplinary engagement, dialogical exchange, vocational commitment, generative potential, and innovative approaches. Within this framework, specific categories are identified as crucial focal points, namely subjectivity, corporeality, relationality, and affectivity. These categories serve as lenses through which to understand and address human vulnerability in ethical discourse. The chapter further elucidates various ethical expressions of human vulnerability such as Karl Rahner’s notion of the human spirit as openness; the extremes of love and violence as a possible answer to human vulnerability; and the enactment of this category in the attitudes of hospitality, tenderness, compassion and forgiveness.
