Microalgae are microorganisms capable of growing in different media, such as wastewater, and eliminating nitrogen and phosphorus (N, P) from different effluents. In addition, their biomass can be used for multiple purposes, such as biofuels, biofertilizers, and animal feed. This exploratory study conducted tests with the species Arthrospira platensis to assess its biomass production in four different culture media: Zarrouk medium (ZM), synthetic domestic wastewater (DW), synthetic seawater (SW), and the mix DW-SW. The tests were carried out for 30 days, and the biomass production was followed by means of the total suspended solids (TSS) evolution. The DW culture medium produced 98 mg TSS/L, while the mixture (DW:SW) generated 274 mg TSS/L. In the ZM culture medium, used as a reference, 488 mg TSS/L were produced. Finally, in the SW culture medium, a concentration of 352 mg TSS/L was reached.
