Capacitive sensors have consistently been an essential use for measurement of various physical parameters because of their utility and precision. Aim of this paper is to introduce concept of fractional order capacitance in designing a transducer and analyse its performance. Fractional order resonant capacitive transducer is introduced, and a detailed analysis is made to study the influence of the fractional order parameter on the performance of the transducer characteristics. Appropriate fractional order parameter of the capacitive transducer is identified for improved performance in terms of both sensitivity and linearity. Simulation results presented in this paper shows that fractional order transducer has better sensitivity and linearity compared to conventional transducer.
