Plantation crops in the world are grown in diverse climatic conditions where the crops are exposed to favourable and unfavourable weather conditions during their long life span. Like with any other crop, plantation crops are also vulnerable to the climate change impact which is inevitable. However, unlike annual or biennial crops, the effect of climate change on the survival and the yield of plantation crops (which are usually perennial) is long standing. Among the plantation crops, coconut plays a vital role in the livelihood, food security and the economy of the coconut growing countries. The production of coconut worldwide is severely affected by the pests and diseases, marginal/low soil fertility and the climate change impact. Out of them, pests and diseases can be managed by using the control measures and the soil fertility can be improved through adopting proper application of fertilizers (both inorganic and organic), improving organic carbon content in the soil, growing cover crops etc. The most difficult factor to be corrected in order to increase the coconut production is the impact of climate change which can affect the yield directly and indirectly through increased incidences of pests and diseases and increased weed populations. Out of the climatic factors, low rainfall, high temperature and elevated carbon dioxide can significantly affect the yield of coconut. Various agronomic practices (Good Agricultural Practices) have been recommended worldwide to mitigate the climate change impact on coconut. This chapter describes the impact of climate change on the pests of coconut.
