Strategies for Controlling Plesispa reichei in Coconut Plantations
摘要
Plesispa reichei is a hispid beetle affecting different palm species. Coconut is their preferred host and they cause significant damage to the seedlings and young coconut palms. Though P. reichei is a pest of coconut for nearly 100 years, due to their slow dispersal, the range of their geographical distribution is still limited to few countries. As P. reichei infestations turn into outbreaks in some regions of the world, management of the pest is necessary. Lack of information about P. reichei in the literature limits the possibility to manage the pest. This chapter intends to review the information on strategies used for controlling P. reichei in coconut plantations in different countries. Further, new areas of research focusing the management of P. reichei are also discussed.
