The creative experiences in urban contextsUrban context are characterized by citizens active both on and offline. These are usersUser experience that populate real-life, as well as virtual communities, by interacting with each other to contribute to the creation of products, services, or experiences. These communities are driven and motivated by social needs, a mutual benefit, or other forms of return, and they contribute an innovative force and creativity to urban life. According to the different needs and experiences, citizens collaborate and form a multi-layered system made of both online and offline interactions. In this complex system, a multitude of social actors intervene and contribute to the city’s creativity. This chapter explores the online and offline experiences of collaboration and co-creation that take place within urban environments and illustrates the different actors as well as their actions and dynamics within the urban environment. After discussing the main and most current conceptualizations of value co-creation and the creative cities, the chapter illustrates the example of online and offline collaborations that characterize today’s urban environments. A particular focus is given to the concepts of co-creation in different media and creative disciplines, such as published media (journalism), street art, and within creative networksNetworks. Finally, online and offline co-creation experiences are illustrated with reference to the concept of the creative city. In this sense, after defining the creative city, this chapter will illustrate a situated approach to creativity where different institutional and non-institutional actors intervene in a collaborative marketing effort that impacts the local context.
