According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), infants should only be breastfed for the first 6 months of their lives, and should continue for at least another 12 months. Further breastfeeding is dependent on the mothers’ willingness and health, as well as other surrounding considerations. However, breastfeeding may not be possible for all women. For mothers who cannot or choose not to breastfeed, the next healthy alternative is infant formula, which provides babies with all of the nutrients they need to develop and flourish. Nowadays, there is a vast range of infant feeding options, including formula, brands, and types. Omega-3 fatty acids (FAs) are an important element in commercially manufactured baby formulae. This article discusses the importance of omega-3 fatty acids in infants’ food formulations.
