We describe three distinct toxin-mediated infectious diseases (tetanus, diphtheria, botulism) caused by three different microorganisms (Clostridium tetani, Corynebacterium diphtheria, Clostridium botulinum). Tetanus, diphtheria, and botulism remain a clinical diagnosis and require a high index of suspicion based on history, epidemiologic risk factors, and signs/symptoms. Various differential diagnoses should be considered and ruled out. Several life-threatening complications can occur for tetanus, diphtheria, and botulism, which in the majority of cases require emergent management and hospitalization. In general, provision for antitoxin or neutralization of toxins, eradication of microorganisms, and supportive care remains the cornerstone of management for these conditions.
